Love XBLA for Xbox Live Rewards

Starting in April Xbox Live Rewards will have a new program for Arcade lovers like myself.  Say hello to My Punchcard.  With the punch card you can earn Exclusive bonuses for buying and playing XBLA games.  The rewards site will track your stats, playtime purchases to calculate your punches.  If you earn enough you get more rewards.  For example, you get a punch for every 800 msp game you buy.  If you buy 4 you get 800 msp back.  You don’t have to purchase anything for one of them but just play 20 hours of Arcade games in April.  Check out the Rewards site for full details.

BattleBlock Theater Release Date

Battleblock Theater will release on April 3rd.  Grab a friend for this one.  It’s gonnabe $15 and loads of fun with friends.  You can also design and play your own levels and upload them for the community.  Lots of replay value in this one, as well as some rather funny jokes and commentary.  My daughter and I have a running joke about some of the opening lines.  Look for it on April 3rd.

Ascend: New Gods Beta Still Open

Ascend LogoIf you love games then you have to love free games.  The next one you will find on XBLA is Signal Studios’  Ascend: New Gods.  This game is coming soon to XBLA and will be completely free.  The cool part is you can help make it better by participating in the beta.    You’re probably wondering what the catch is or if this isn’t going to be free to play and instead labeled Pay to Win.  I’m going to talk about that in an upcoming preview but I’ll tell you now that there is no catch and it is in fact free to play and not the other way around.  It’s also amazingly fun.  Stay tuned for the preview and in the mean time get your name in for the beta.  You won’t regret it.

Adera for Win8 – A Look Into the Series

adera_slide_updated
Greetings! For those who don’t know, Adera is a point and click story from HitPoint Studios. It is an episodic adventure available on Windows 8 PCs and RT devices, and is Xbox LIVE enabled. To date, there have been three episodes released for the first season.
This weekend I had a chance to speak with HitPoint Studios at their PAX East booth and here’s what they told me about the episodes and the rest of the season:

  1. Episode 4 is completed and currently in certification, expect it to be another 1-2 weeks before release. They had a playable demo but I didn’t want to spoil it so I held off on that.
  2. Episode 4 will be around the same length and the same price as episode 3. They were done this way to get the content out sooner (they are a smaller developer so it takes time…see point #4).
  3. Episode 5 will be the biggest episode yet and will be the conclusion of this season (not 7 episodes as previously reported).
  4. Episodes generally have a 2-3 month development process.
  5. No details on when season 2 will take place, but expect a decent break.
  6. Episodic Content for them has proven to be very successful and has sold really well. HitPoint was surprised by the reaction to their content and is pleased to see so many are enjoying it.
  7. HitPoint also develop the Disney Fairies game on Win8 and are making that episodic as well (not Adera news but ya).

I thanked them for the game as I personally like it. I don’t mind paying them the price of an episode. They have a 2-3 month devlopment cycle, and they aren’t a huge company. They are in Massachusettes and only have 46 full time employees working on many games.

Hope you enjoyed these few tid bits of extra insight and information, I know I did! Keep on a lookout for Episode 4 shortly!
